NCBA GOLF SERIES LAUNCHED AT UGANDA GOLF CLUB

NCBA Golf Series offer a great platform for amateur golfers to compete and improve their skills as they interact with stakeholders from different regions at the Grand Finale in December at Muthaiga Golf Club – Mark Muyobo, Managing Director NCBA Bank Uganda.

Uganda Golf Club captain, Emmanuel Wamala, returned home a happy man after bagging the inaugural NCBA Bank Golf Series title. He shot 43 points to overcome a field of 150 golfers at par-72 Kitante course.

“It is a big honour to win such a tournament. I played my best throughout the 18 holes. I thank the members I played with and everybody who took part through the day” said Wamala.

Eva Lwanga won the ladies event with 46 points. They both received trophies and golf bags from the Chief Guest, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development.

Jaimie Byaruhanga shot 39 points to top Group A Men Category while Uganda Golf Union President, Moses Baryamujura Matisko, came runner-up with 38 points. Patrick Kagoro won Group B on countback after he shot 40 points apiece with Entebbe’s Hannington Mpiima. William Omaria scored 37 points, beating Paresh Shukla by one point to top Group C.

Chinese female golfer, Lin Li Xia, tallied 36 points to win on countback over Jenina Nasimolo in Ladies Group A. Brenda Maraka took ladies Group B gong with 43 points edging out Moreen Nasimolo by two points.

John Gachora, the Group Managing Director of NCBA Bank, was the best NCBA staff with 34 points. Andrew Kibaya and Gloria Mbaguta came closer to winning the car staked by CFAO for the hole in one shot on the par-3 hole 9.

The longest drive contest on the par 5 hole 18 was won by David Mpanga – men and Jenina Nasimolo –ladies.

The tournament also raised funds towards refurbishment of Noah’s Ark Children Centre, Entebbe. The facility looks after children with special needs and the disabled.

This fundraiser happened during the 19th hole experience moments after the inaugural NCBA Golf series played at the par 72 Uganda Golf Club, Kitante in Kampala city. Atleast UGX.17M was raised for the cause.

Mr. Mark Muyobo, NCBA Bank Uganda Managing Director, said that the NCBA Golf series is intended to provide that platform to improve amateur golfers in the East African region.

Mr. John Gachora, the Group Managing Director of NCBA Group thanked the management of Uganda Golf Club and the golfers for working together to have a successful NCBA Golf Series tournament in Uganda, adding that it was the first of the many tournaments to be played in Uganda and urged the golfing fraternity to embrace them.
