I was struggling a lot with my putting but I wasn’t carried away by that, I kept calm, and played like a winner. I tried to correct my first-round mistakes and that’s how I ended up playing well – Ronald Rugumayo.

This year’s edition of Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Ladies Open was a Toro Golf Club’s affair after Peace Kabasweka and Ronald Rugumayo, both from Toro, won the ladies and professionals categories respectively.

Ronald Rugumayoreturned six-under-par-138 in 36 holes played over two days at the par-72 at Kitante course, Kampala.The Toro based professional played six birdies and 4 bogeys in the first round before sealing it off with 5 birdies and an eagle on the par-5 hole-8 in the final round, earning himself a cash prize of UGX.10,000,000 for his effort.This is the second win for Rugumayo this year, the first one being the Equity Toro Open that he won in March. Last year, Rugumayoagain took the lion’s share of the prize money having come second behind then amateur player,RodellGaita, who won the event.

I have been preparing for the Safari Tour that should begin soon since the Kenya elections are over but the Uganda Open is also around the corner and I need to put up a great performance. I want to be in good shape and the win gives me confidence in the coming tournament – Ronald Rugumayo.

BeccaMwanja of Uganda Golf Club came second with an aggregate score of 139 gross over two rounds after returning level par (72) in round one followed by a superb five-under-67 in round two. Phillip Kasozi came third with an aggregate score of 140 after shooting 71 and 69 gross scores respectively.

DeoAkope, who has shot a four-under-68 during the first round slid to fourth place after a disappointing two-over-74 score on the last day.

Adolf Muhumuza, who had returned one-over-73, had a better finish with a three-under-69 hence finishing in fifth position Towering professional, Grace Kasango, from Jinja Golf Club made his first pro cut with 69, 74 for a combined one-under-143 in 36 holes.

Other professionals who finished in the top 10 included Marvin Kibirige (144), Vincent Byamukama(145), David Kamulindwa (145) and Ismail Muhamood (145).

Fouramateurs  -Tom Jjingo (144), BruhanMatovu (144) and national team golfer Godfrey Nsubuga (145) and Ismail Nsubuga (145) also made the cut.

Professionals that included SaidiMawa, Fred Wanzala, Abbey Bagalana, SadiAtibu, Brian Toolit, Herman Mutawe, Denis Anguyo, Silver Opio, Steven Odong, Steven Kasaija, George Olayo, Joseph Mawejje and Lawrence Muhendamissed the cut. Also lady professionals FlaviaNamakula andIrene Nakalembe couldn’t make it to the final round.
