NCBA GOLF SERIES: PEACE KABASWEKA WINS AGAIN.

The 2o23 Uganda Ladies Open champion, Peace Kabasweka, won he 2023 NCBA Golf Series at Entebbe Golf Club on Saturday, October 28th, just two weeks after she claimed the most prestigious ladies title Uganda Golf Club. Kabasweka, Toro Golf Club ladies captain, returned a gross score of 76 at the par 71 course to emerge as the overall winner of the one-day event.

Over 120 golfers participated in the penultimate event of the NCBA Golf Series vying for a place in the grand finale of the series that will be held on December 1 at Sigona Golf Club in Nairobi, Kenya.

The first leg of this year’s series was a qualifiers event at Uganda Golf Club in Kitante back in July that was clinchedd by Peter Tumusiime.

Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony, Mark Muyobo, the NCBA Managing Director, said that the bank is committed to growing Golf in Uganda. He revealed the NCBA Bank Uganda has invested over Ushs.250 million in every tournament under NCBA Golf Series.

“We have invested over Ushs.250 million in every tournament under the NCBA Golf Series and this includes creating an environment that inspires everyone to pursue greatness in whatever they do,” said Muyobo.

Mr. Muyobo extended his gratitude towards NCBA’s partners such as World Navi, UBL and ICEA for their continuous support, adding that winners will have the opportunity to play in NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale at Sigona Golf Club in Nairobi.

“Golf to us is a way in which we get communities to play together and that is why we sponsor. The winners have an opportunity to play in Sigona for the grand finale in December, fully sponsored by NCBA,” he said.

Harriet Kitaka won the ladies’ category with the score of 83 gross, while Gloria Mbaguta came second with 84 score. John Basabosa topped the men’s category with 77 gross, edging out Twinemanzi Tumubwene by a single stroke. Henry Ssali was the men’s net winner after he returned 62 while Dorothy Nabirye netted 64 to top the ladies net category.

In other categories, Moses Mukiibi shot 89 gross to emerge staff winner, Shaka Kariisa was the junior winner with 87 gross while Rhoda Kimera was the NCBA guest winner with 70 nett. The winning team comprised of Robert Busingye, Richard Lutwama, Anne Abeja and Peace Kabasweka. The longest drive prizes went to Alexander Kasendwa and  Peace Kabasweka in the men’s and ladies’ categories respectively. Darhil Shah and Edrea Kagombe won men’s and ladies’ nearest to the pin respective categories.

The inaugural NCBA Golf Series was launched in 2021 and continued for the 2nd year in 2022 by hosting two tournaments in Uganda and more than fifteen in Kenya. The golf series includes the Junior Golf Series tournaments in partnership with U.S. Kids golf which sees over 300 junior golfers representing over thirteen nationalities play to secure opportunities to play in the Rome classic tournament in Italy and the big five South African Tournament.
