MTN Excites EGC With 1Billion MTN Monthly Tee Sponsorship

“We can confirm that we are going to go a long haul and MTN has confirmed that we are stronger together again. We have agreed that we are going to develop the game of golf with programmes for juniors, ladies and new members with Entebbe as the kingpin,” Jacob Byamukama, Chairman of Entebbe Golf Club.

MTN Uganda has announced a partnership with Entebbe Golf Club to sponsor the MTN Monthly Tee, formerly known as the Entebbe Monthly Mug. This partnership is part of MTN’s commitment to supporting the development of the sport, strengthen relationships with the golfing community.

As part of the sponsorship, MTN Uganda will invest close to                 UGX 1 billion over the next three years to support the development of Entebbe Golf Club. This investment will go towards the building of a halfway house, which will be named the MTN Halfway House, as well as the refurbishment of the Entebbe Club House.

The deal was e-signed by Jacob Byamukama, the chairman of Entebbe Golf Club, and Sylvia Mulinge, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda.

We have agreed that we are going to develop the game of golf with programmes for juniors, ladies and new members to expand and golf in the country with Entebbe as the kingpin,” said Byamukama.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Entebbe Club to support the development of golf in Uganda. This sponsorship is a testament to our commitment to supporting and strengthening our relationships with stakeholders in the various communities where we operate,” said Sylvia Mulinge, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda.

MTN Uganda’s sponsorship of the MTN Monthly Tee is for a period of 3 years. Additionally, MTN will build a halfway house and will name and brand it for the next 10 years. Similarly, the Club House will be refurbished and branded for a period of ten years.

The first MTN Monthly Tee took place on Saturday, April 22, 2023 with Edward Kabuchu becoming the overall winner.

Playing off handicap 19, Kabuchu braved the wet conditions at the par-71 course to beat the field of 178 players thanks to a superb round of 63 nett.

“Everything I did turned into gold. I am not used to rolling my ball. Wherever I would hit my ball, it would go there, the ground was favorable,” said Kabuchu, the Chief Executive Officer of  MSL Logistics, a big player in the oil industry.

Ronald Osekeny won Men’s Group B category with 68 nett on count-back off handicap 17.

Osekeny reacted, “I hit an OB for quadruple bogey on par-5 Hole No.4 and lost a ball for double bogey on par-4 Hole No.5 otherwise, I was headed for overall winner,” he added.

Other winners included Dr. Kato Ssebbaale, Emmanuel Wamimbi, Diana Nabukenya, Tony Kisadha, and Brian Cable.

The Entebbe Club, East Africa’s oldest golf course, was established in 1901 and boasts an 18-hole golf course, a basketball court, a tennis court, a cricket oval, and numerous indoor games. The Club has a thriving membership of over 500, with an additional 400 non-member visitors, welcoming both seasoned players and novices alike.
