Dr. Aliker was an influential business leader holding Directorships with blue chip companies including Uganda Breweries, MTN Uganda, Cooper Motor Corporation, Phoenix Assurance Company of East Africa, Coca-Cola Africa, Nation Media Group and Heritage Oil Uganda.

Dr. Martin Aliker a golfer and Trustee and Life Member at Uganda Golf Club passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Nakasero Hospital.
Aliker, who died aged 95, was a dental surgeon, businessman and entrepreneur who held different portfolios in the corporate, education and politics of Uganda.
Emmanuel Wamala, a former Captain of Uganda Golf Club, eulogizes Aliker describing him as an amazing and invaluable member of UGC with unmatchable qualities of sincerity, honesty, straightforwardness, dedication, compassion and above all that great sense of humour.
“He did not only serve as a Trustee of the club but also used his influence in the various corporates he was associated with to sponsor mega tournaments. He was a great fellow and he will be greatly missed,” Wamala said.
Who was Dr. Martin Aliker?
Dr Aliker, a renowned dental surgeon and distinguished businessman, leaves behind a legacy marked by his unwavering commitment to public service and entrepreneurship.
Born in Gulu District on October 21, 1928, to Rwot Lacito Okech and Juliana Auma, Dr. Aliker’s journey towards excellence began early in life. He was an alumnus of Kings College Budo and Makerere University. He qualified as Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Northwestern University, Chicago, 1959.

Upon completing his studies, Dr Aliker returned to Uganda armed with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery, becoming a trailblazer by founding the first black-owned dental practice in Kampala.
His entrepreneurial spirit led him to invest in numerous businesses across Uganda, cementing his reputation as a visionary leader in the country’s corporate landscape.
He was an influential business leader and investor, holding Board of Director position with blue chip companies including Uganda Breweries Limited, MTN Uganda, United Bank of Africa, Cooper Motor Corporation, Longman Publishing Uganda, Phoenix Assurance Company of East Africa, Coca-Cola Africa Region, Nation Media Group and Heritage Oil Uganda. He also served as Chairperson, Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust Fund, Uganda Chapter, Chancellor of Gulu University Chancellor of Victoria University.
In addition to his achievements in business, Aliker was a devoted public servant, serving as a Senior Presidential Advisor and Foreign Affairs Minister in President Museveni’s administration. He also served as Advisor to Presidents Yusuf Lule and Godfrey Binaisa between 1979-80.
His diplomatic acumen was widely recognized as he undertook missions on behalf of Uganda, facilitating crucial dialogues with international leaders including Presidents Omar Al Bashir of Sudan and Muammar Gaddafi of Libya.
Dr. Aliker’s contributions extended beyond the realms of healthcare and diplomacy. As the Founding Chancellor of Gulu University, he played a role in advancing higher education and fostering intellectual growth in northern Uganda.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr Aliker’s personal life was characterized by enduring love and companionship. He celebrated 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife Camille, a testament to their unwavering bond and shared commitment to family.
Dr. Martin Jerome Aliker’s legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. His dedication to excellence, entrepreneurship, and public service leaves an indelible mark on Uganda’s history and serves as a beacon of hope for the future.
