AIRTEL SIGNS SPONSORSHIP DEAL WITH UGANDA GOLF CLUB

Airtel Uganda seeks to promote talent and strengthen the relationship between Airtel Uganda, the sport of golf, and the Uganda Golf Club to remain relevant where the customers are.

Airtel Uganda has injected UGX.100M to sponsor Wednesday Club Nights and related golf activities at Uganda Golf Club (UGC) throughout the year.

Announcing the partnership at Uganda Golf Club (UGC) in Kampala on Friday, November 11th, Henry Njoroge, Airtel Uganda’s Marketing Director said that the telecom seeks to promote talent and strengthen the relationship between Airtel Uganda, the sport of golf, and the Uganda Golf Club to remain relevant where the customers are.

According to NoelaByuma, Head of Brand and Communications at Airtel Uganda, the partnership will offer a platform to engage golfers with Airtel services.

“We will be here every Wednesday to engage golfers and show them what this partnership means for us. You have seen for yourselves what Airtel has done to sports in Uganda. To us, it is not just about business; it’s also about developing all aspects that mean a lot to our customers. I hope that through this partnership we get some golfers that can go out and represent the country,” said Byuma.

David Birungi, Airtel Public Relations Manager said that it is time for Uganda’s second largest telecom to venture into developing golf after supporting football in the Airtel Rising Stars Masaza Cup and FUFA. He adds that with its 115 years, if supported, Uganda Golf Club has the capacity to produce more professional golfers especially now that the youngstersare showing interest in the game.

Emmanuel Wamala,welcomed the gesture saying it is a big push for UGC and the players especially in organizing the Wednesday club nights.Wamala explained how the partnership between Airtel Uganda and Uganda Golf Club is going to work.

“At each of the activations, golfers will get a chance to engage with the brand and win lots of goodies that will culminate into bigger monthly club night activation, each end of the month for a period of a year,” Wamala explained.

Uganda Golf Club, established in 1908, has been in existence for now 114 years and there are a number of activities lined up for the 115th anniversary slated for next year. A number of activities such as upgrading the course and unveiling the book detailing the history of the Golf club have been lined up for celebration.

Uganda Golf Club is a par 72, 18-holes golf course measuring 6,732 yards in length set right in the centre of Kampala City.The club features golf amenities, including a club house, a range, as well as putting and chipping grounds. It has retained the city’s last expansive stretch of greenery, a welcoming retreat amidst the busy capital.
